Wyoming and Nebraska Direct Feeder Cattle Summary

Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/19/2017

Receipts: 350 Week Ago: 6,525 Year Ago: 320

No comparable sales last week for a market comparison. Demand was
light this week after lower trading prevailed on the CME cattle boards
most of the week. Also, most yearling cattle are out on summer grass and
buyers and sellers are waiting to see what direction the summer yearling
market will go. Some areas of Wyoming and the panhandle of Nebraska
received snow with some reports near 12 inches with other areas in
Nebraska receiving rain. Slaughter cattle trade was a disappointment to
some cattle feeders as the price slipped back. But, live and dressed
sales are still trading with a positive basis to the nearby June board.
This weeks live cattle in Nebraska sold 2.50-3.00 lower from 133.00-
135.50 and dressed sales sold 5.00-10.00 lower ranging from 210.00-
215.00. Direct prices are current FOB with a 2-3 percent shrink or
equivalent and with a 10-15 cent slide on calves and 8-10 cent slide on
yearlings from base weight. Delivered prices include freight, commissions
and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery. Fridays
supply include 100 percent steers with all receipts over 600 lbs.
